The University of Utah has a partnership with The Utah Transit Authority (UTA) to offer students, staff, and faculty transit at no cost, on the majority of UTA services.
Your UCard is your Transit Pass!
Cost to students, faculty and staff: NONE! It is FREE!
HOW TO GET YOUR PASS
Your UCard is automatically activated if you are enrolled in the current semester. For all incoming freshman, the pass will be loaded on their mobile device as a flash pass.
KEY INFORMATION
Valid Services:
- Valid services include: Bus, Express Bus, TRAX, FrontRunner, S-Line, and UTA On-Demand
Excluded Services:
- Ski and Paratransit.
Proof of Fare:
- Students with the mobile credentials will open their mobile wallet (Apple) or the app (Android) to show their credentials as a flash pass to operators and inspectors as proof of fare. Students with a physical UCard will still be required to tap their card on validators and get a green light to show proof of fare.
HOW TO USE YOUR PASS
When you board UVX, TRAX, or FrontRunner, tap your ID on the card reader on or near the platform. Tap again when you exit the platform at your destination.
When you board a UTA bus, tap your student ID on the electronic card reader near the door. Tap again when you exit.
WHY TAP ON/TAP OFF?
Tapping your card when you board and exit is an important part of the transit pass agreement between your university and UTA. These taps don’t keep track of who you are or where you go, but they do:
- Show that valid fare has been paid for your transit trip
- Tell UTA how many people are riding which routes
- Gather ridership data so UTA can adjust service to better meet riders’ needs
- Provide info about how many students and staff are using transit passes
- Prove to your university that the transit pass is a helpful benefit for students and staff
As the rider, you are responsible for tapping on and off when you board and exit. Please do your part to make sure the pass program works effectively.
